Weekend Update #24: Witness
Russell Means discusses how the lens through which America views its Indigenous people, shows how America views the world. From English-only laws and Christian righteousness to the perpetual state of war since its creation, the United States citizens continue to show a lack of respect for their relatives visions. Russell Means offers advice to the people of America in this edition of Weekend Update.

Sean McCandless 2 years agoAfter listening to you I have this thought as a metaphor of the American (perhaps Western) political mind. The American rulers act like they are the saviors of the world who will redeem everyone and everything. They write laws, edicts, statutes, and create commissioners, secretaries, undersecretaries, and czars of this or that "problem". These are sent out as if they were the angels of God who "Shall do". How they "Shall do" anything is never spelled out in any of these edicts because it is the devil hidden in the commissioner who will try to carry them out by means of violence. They seek some kind of "glory" but unknown even to themselves, make a kind of pact with the devil to attempt to carry this out. Later when the victims of their benevolence complain the rulers are completely unable to grasp how this can be. The people they want to help are nothing but abstractions fabricated in their own minds to fulfill a role in their egocentric aspirations to be the world-redeeming savior. But why would god need a gun? Such a pretend savior must have the poor little helpless sheep to save, and therefore the people are kept as a herd and prodded here and there at the personal whim of Our Great Shepherd Sam the All-Uncle.
