In conjunction with the multi-course practicum entitled Living Arts City, the Living Arts City Workshop was a five day engagement between Cambodian contemporary artists associated with SA SA BASSAC and BS Urban Design Students from Parsons the New School for Design.
The multi-course practicum entitled Living Arts City links multiple courses and events at The New School to provide an intellectual context for Season of Cambodia, a major international arts festival taking place in New York City throughout April and May of 2013 with over 125 Cambodian performing and visual artists will fill New York City’s stages, screens, galleries, and public spaces. Cambodian traditional and contemporary art will form part of a multi-disciplinary festival produced by Phnom Penh-based non-profit organization Cambodian Living Arts in partnership with New York’s most vibrant cultural institutions, such as BAM, the Joyce Theater, the Film Society at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Rubin Art Museum and the Asia Society. The festival will be a unique pedagogical opportunity for New School students and faculty to contribute to ongoing discussions about arts education and production, design and city development, and urban life in direct dialogue with Cambodian and New York artists, curators and cultural institutions participating in the festival.
