Google earth visualizes hundreds of high resolution data sets of temperature and precipitation all linked to its NOAA data source.
The time span commonly goes back 20.000years, occasionally I watch back deeper in time to put present climate in the right perspective.
The video dates from feb 2013, the early days. Today (june2013) the every data point has been updated with comment. And it has become clear when we go back half a million years, a million years that when temperatures were hotter, precipitation was higher even in very arid areas such as Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, Sahel, Australia.
