PART I: Stereoscopic Animation And Motion Graphics

This tutorial should provide a starting point for establishing a basic stereoscopic workflow in Adobe After Effects. Please note that this is just an exemplary workflow that you are free to modify according to your needs. For instance, "Auto Link Properties" should not generally be turned on, since it causes increased conversion and rendering times.
Also, this tutorial is not a comprehensive explanation of the stereo scripts - only very few features are demonstrated.

You can download the scripts here:

Wow, this is really amazing! Thank you so much for generously sharing your expertise!

I have a question: Let's say I want an object to appear to move from BEHIND the plane of the screen to in FRONT of it.

As I understand stereoscopy, this is a function of where the Z-axes of the two cameras intersect, no? So are your cameras parallel? Or is it something that can be adjusted?

I would like to have all my objects "behind", and then have one object move out "in front" -- how to accomplish?

    THANK YOU!

UPDATE -- I think I figured it out -- I have to tweak the "convergence" value, right? Set it so that an object right "at" the screen has zero parallax, then anything in front of that will be in front of the screen ...

Excellent! Great work and fun to watch.
I have a couple questions though, any help would be greatly appreciated. First, what kind of equipment do you need to view this in 3D? We looked up some panasonic monitor that was like $10,000 and an AJA Kona 3G card. Are these necessary? Second, how do you output the final files and what do you do with them? I'm assuming you couldn't just play a DVD on a 3D monitor.

No need to buy a 3d monitor , just download the latest driver for your NVIDIA graphics Card , then you will get the 3D Stereoscopic option in settings(just on it) & buy a 3D Glass from EBAY or from NVIDIA ;)

    & windows 7 needed

That's nice info Shuvra, but don't you also need a 120 hertz monitor? I didn't think the driver alone would do stereo.

Can someone help me out- where can I find glasses to view 3D like this? What are the differences in glasses/viewing types. Is the one used here the standard?
