My son discovered this guy near our camp site under a rock in a pool on the tidal flats at Barwon Heads, Victoria, Australia. I understand Blue-ringed octopi are a group of 3 species including this one, the Blue-lined octopus (Hapalochlaena fasciata). There is enough venom in this guy to kill more than 20 adults through respitory parallysis. If someone is bitten and a pressure bandage fails to stop the onset of parallysis they will require rescue breath resusitation until the venom passes through their system.
