The River Arts District is a unique neighborhood in Asheville, North Carolina home to more than 165 artists with working studios. Centered in the heart of the district is the Clingman Cafe, a cozy hangout for locals and visitors alike. Co-owner Trip Howell blended his art gallery background with a strong history of hospitality and service to create an environment that is at once art gallery and welcoming cafe. He rotates the exhibits monthly, featuring artists from the area.
“We believe in this, we believe in the artists and what the creativity brings to the city, and want to make that available,” says Clingman Cafe Co-Owner Pamela Howell Wright.
Owners Trip and Pamela contacted us early last year and asked if we could make them a commercial. We told them, “No, but we’d like to tell your story.” The Clingman Cafe is a staple in the River Arts District in Asheville, NC. Many of the local artists and craftspeople who live and work in the district visit every single day for great coffee and excellent food. We decided to make a short series and talk about their historic neighborhood, their passion for food and the cafe’s atmosphere. Enjoy!
