Portrait of Sylvia Elena is a piece by Swoon created in collaboration with Tennessee Jane Watson about femicide in Juarez. The piece centers around the disappearance of Sylvia Elena Morales in 1995; she is just one of thousands of young women murdered in Juarez over the last 20 years. The piece was originally exhibited in 2008, in San Francisco and New York. Four years later, at a time when incidents of femicide have once again increased, Swoon and Tennessee worked with local artists to bring the piece to the streets of Juarez.
