The Holohelmet is a head-mounted projector display that provides view-dependent images capable of immersing the wearer in a virtual 3D environment. The helmet uses innovative camera-based head tracking, provides dynamic binaural soundscapes together with generative audio and implements natural hands-free interaction using a Kinect sensor. This project emerged as an alternative implementation of camera tracking and calibration software developed by the 3D Content team at ProductionMagic in BBC R&D. In this demo the viewer is immersed into an exotic sea-side landscape and is able to swim and dive through the water using intuitive arm and body gestures.

The Holohelmet is a BBC R&D research project developed in collaboration with the Media and Arts Technology programme at Queen Mary University of London.
