32. The Clock in HD - 24…
this is my first real 24p video on vimeo so far... wanted to use the same footage but shot in 24p mode as well as 60i mode. Hopefully I did it right :) Please shoot me down if i didn't! The .mp4 in this video is 24p and 60i version is here (30p really but shot in 60i): vimeo.com/597154 . the 60i version doesn't have the closeup footage. only had that for the 24p version.

Note: You can't tell the difference on Vimeo. You would have to download the .mp4's and play them.

Camera: Canon HV20
Editing: Adobe Premiere Pro CS3
Pulldown method: Eugenia's awesome tutorial. Very nice! You can view it here:

You can't see a huge difference between 24p and 60i/30p on Vimeo, because Vimeo re-encodes in 24p anyway. So even if your original video was 30p, it will be re-encoded as 24p. The only difference you might get is the different shutter speeds that the camera used when in different modes.

right... you would have to download and play them seperately, and would notice this more on a tv as well opposed to the computer. but even playing them seperately, not a huge difference except the motion in 24p is a little more film like.

Hmm yeah I'm having a tough time seeing a difference between the two.

I guess it's because of what Eugenia said above... or maybe due to a lack of color (??) in the subject.
Either way, both are beautiful. You could shoot a blade of grass w/the HV20 and it will look great.

definitely :) hv20 can make anything look great. the boring becomes interesting closeup in HD :)

i'm not sure i'm ready to jump on the 24p bandwagon just yet. i don't see a huge reason to shoot my footage in 24p just yet. unless it's low light. i'm mostly a videographer, not an editor, so i like the 60i footage personally. and as you can see, i'm mostly into nature and outside shots... where 24p probably won't come into play too much. but at least i know how now :)

Eugenia is right about not being able to see a difference on vimeo. Also the subject matter doesn't go a long way in highlighting differences of color and contrast. Try shooting something outside with more color. This should give you an idea of the differences between. Try shooting 60i and 24p... cinemode and auto mode.

right... you won't be able to see the difference in flash/vimeo.
i will try to get some more color and contrast. thanks,

Just curious . . . why is the 60i version shorter? You cut out the close-up. I was looking at the two downloads trying figure out which was which (both had same time stamp). I assumed the 24p was smaller until I found it had more footage.

I see a definite difference in the wood grain under the shelf above the clock. The 24p version looks like it had black stretch on while the 60i looks less differentiated.

I have noticed on my old Sony V1 that clips shot with the same preset and everything except shutter speed look richer, warmer, more natural in 24p.

hmmm you're right. not sure why i didn't have the exact same footage for this test. i'll have to do another one :)

a lot of people said i should do this outside to give this a fair comparison as well. something with a lot of colors etc... so i'll redo this. white and bland colors, you probably won't see a huge difference.
