Commission by Japanese Fashion house Adam et Ropé to produce an animation based on the theme of ‘Christmas’. We took some of the core elements of the traditional holiday and subverted them to give the video a more hand-made feel, while still evoking a warm Christmas feeling to the viewer. The final 2 minute film was rear projected in the front window of the companies flagship store in the heart of Tokyo’s Shibuya district.
The entire background imagery was a single piece of art we created that would be used for paralax scrolling of the individual animation elements to add a sense of motion. We also added a lot of grain and other distressed elements which combined with the sound of an old film reel gave the impression of a stop motion animation. The sound was all created with a combiination of found objects and computer software to work specifically with the movements of the animation.
