what do you want to express?
  • Ashley Perry 4 months ago
    Hello Ytygo,

This film is related to my postgraduate research interests which centre on Melbourne's regime of automobility.

My research is project-based and my central outcome is a film.

I think one of the things I'm trying to express is the dominance the car holds over Melbourne, as well as the spatial organisation that the car creates/demands.

    Cheers,

    Ash Perry

I really like the shot with the cars and all that. Can you tell me where to get the song for this, I need it for my iPod. Is this an adaptation of a novel or is it an original script?

P.s I think you should enter this in Sundance's "Best Short Film About Cars Without An Actress Or Actor Section."

Is this the city proper, or outskirts? Looks like the latter.
  • Ashley Perry 4 months ago
    Hello Partha,

It's a combination of both, the inner-city and the edges of the city.

Melbourne's spatial organisation separates into two distinct urban forms. The gentrified, well-serviced (trams, bicycle paths, pedestrian friendly CBD) inner core, or downtown, and the dispersed, sprawling and disconnected car dependent outer-city, not unlike many American cities.

    Cheers,

    Ash Perry

I like that this wasn't sped up. Usually you see that with driving videos and that has its charm, but it's nice to really feel that commute too.

Interesting Ashely. I certainly got a sense of the "Spacial organisation that the car demands"

An interesting contrast would be the viewing the competition cars face in the city (especially during lunch hour) when faced with having to compete for space with pedestrians, trams and even horse drawn carriages on occiasion. ... Just a thought. Melbourne's CBD is no longer 'car friendly' .. an interesting contrast perhaps?
