Dean Teresa Hord Owens, Dean of Students at the University of Chicago Divinity School answered questions for Diversifying Faculty in Illinois (DFI) Fellows (part of the IBHE).
She provided insights from her own career and advice to help DFI Fellows to be better prepared for faculty and higher education administration interviews. Questions included:
What were the factors that contributed to your being hired? What inspired you to complete a degree in divinity? How did you explain your background and degrees (to interviewers)?
What is your best advice for those looking for an administrative position in higher education?
Any tips for transitioning from industry to academia?
How do you answer sensitive questions during interviews?
How does applying/interviewing for an administrative job differ from a faculty position?
What factors should I think about when deciding between an administrative and faculty position?
GCMHERC.org was honored to organize this opportunity for DFI Fellows.
