Director of Photography Michael Leschisin of Image Studios spent 3 days in the Sahara Desert filming German Artist, Markus Kayser and his Solar Sinter machine. After a nine hour drive through the Atlas Mountains, Leschisin documented Kayser’s process of printing 3D objects from only sand and sunlight. His footage was captured using a Panasonic AF100, a Canon 5D Mark II, and a Drift Cam. Image Studios editor, Ethan Daane told the story by coupling the fascinating process with his cinematic, creative vision. The film was commissioned by The Kohler Company, a manufacturer of ceramic kitchen and bath products. Kohler has been interested and supportive of Kayser's work. Kayser is hopeful that the inspiring results of his Solar Sinter will help shape the future of manufacturing.
