Beach yawls and punts, sprats and sole, nets and salvage, sail and oar.
John “Dusso” Winter tells his tales to Classic Yacht TV inside Suffolk’s treasure chest, the Sailors Reading Room. This film features the ‘Bittern’, a beach yawl that was meant to be the fastest on the East Coast, we uncovered this myth which exudes G.L. Watson’s design for a Beach Yawl to compete for a Victorian audience. And of course John explains the stories of Charlotte Ellis and Mrs Rayley who founded this warm haven – designed to get the fisherman out of the pubs.
