Bill Ward and I hoped to follow our last outing together (see "8am Monday Meeting") with another successful morning on the flats, fly-fishing for winter redfish. Unfortunately, we didn't have the same success as last time. 31 degrees, but calm winds when we arrived at the landing, and we struggled to get the boat started. After arriving at our first flat 30 minutes later than we planned, we were excited to immediately see our first school of 30-50 tailing fish. However the fish got the best of us all morning, either spooking or refusing all our flies. The only fish we managed was foul-hooked in the tail. It was certainly fun to chase school after school of tailing fish in just inches of water all morning long, but always frustrating when you strike out. So goes fishing, especially on the fly...
