Fun weekend trip to legendary Torrey Pines where I met up with Justin Gafford, fellow Ultrabatics stylist, for some fun flying. Conditions were poor by Torrey standards, with Saturday seeing unflyable north winds and Sunday having barely-flyable south winds. Justin and I made the most of it with our ultralight planes and ended up having plenty of fun! We also stopped and flew Garfield in Carlsbad on the way back home.
Justin is flying a scratchbuilt plane based on Peter Richner's series of Swiss Fish one-off designs. His plane has about a 50" (1270mm) wingspan and weighs 12oz (340g). With its tall fuselage, Justin's plane is capable of unlimited knife edge flight... it's pretty cool to watch and a ton of fun to fly! And of course I am flying my trusty old 17oz (480g) ultralight Le Fish with Madslide -inspired stabilizer.
