Wikipedia: Herping is the act of searching for amphibians or reptiles. The term, often used by professional and amateur herpetologists, comes from the word "herp", which comes from the same Greek root as herpetology, herpet-, meaning "creeping"
This is my personal compilation of footage I filmed for the feature length documentaries Herpers II (Costa Rica) and Herpers III (Arizona & New Mexico), directed by Dav Kaufman.
In Costa Rica, I got to film the very vine that National Geographic had filmed on and trudged the same trails as BBC's Planet Earth. In Arizona and New Mexico we saw stunning sunsets and got bit by chiggers. While filming I had to make do with the gear given to me. Just me with an HVX200, a shotgun mic, a terrible tripod, occasionally a monopod, the director, his fellow herpetologist friend from the DNR, and whomever was with us there.
From Costa Rica, to Arizona and New Mexico.. They were some of the best experiences in my life, as creepy as the crawlies were!
