In today’s portion of the Gospel, Jesus’ preaching is too heavy on the cross, somehow creating the impression that following Him is too heavy a burden.
To erase that impression, Jesus invites some disciples to experience His Transfiguration, a foretaste of heaven. And Jesus succeeds – the disciples are overwhelmed by the unexplainable experience of that Transfiguration, which from now on will energize them in their mission.
After the transfiguration, Jesus and the disciples go down the mountain to respond to the needs of the people, the crosses that have become easy and happy to carry.
St. Peter Parish, Cavite City, has its won transfigurations, deep experience of God in their masses and other devotions, that energize the parishioners to “go down” and carry crosses – fellowmen’s burdens.
