Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
- Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
Baptism Means: To dunk, immerse or submerge into water, and to be risen up a new person with a new life.
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
“What Does God Gain When I Get Baptized?”
1. HE GAINS A TRANSFORMED SON/DAUGHTER
17 “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you….22 “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. 23 And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, 24 for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.
- Luke 15:17-18, 22-24 (NLT)
2. HE GAINS ALL THE CREDIT HE DESERVES.
1 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. 2 “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” 3 “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. - John 9:1-3 (NLT)
3. HE GAINS A BOLD WITNESS
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - Acts 1:8 (NLT)
5 OBSTACLES TO GETTING BAPTIZED
“What Do I Gain When I Get Baptized?”
4. I GAIN CLEAR VISION FOR MY LIFE.
6 Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. 7 He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”).
So the man went and washed and came back seeing!
- John 9:6-7 (NLT)
5. I GAIN A BRAND NEW START.
24 So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, “God should get the glory for this, because we know this man Jesus is a sinner.” 25 “I don’t know whether he is a sinner,” the man replied. “But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!” - John 9:24-25 (NLT)
