We were absolutely thrilled to have Hélène Campbell visit us at Elmwood School on February 22, 2013. Hélène was diagnosed in September 2011 with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and was placed on the transplant list. Lung transplants are time critical. So Hélène and her mom, Manon, had to leave the rest of the family in Ottawa and move to Toronto. There, they waited to receive notice that a compatible set of lungs had become available. Hélène received her new lungs on April 6th, Good Friday, 2012. She shared her incredibly inspiring story with us. She explained what her illness was and the importance of staying positive throughout her incredible journey. She also shared the importance of being confident. Confident in yourself and in what you believe in, which lead her to sharing the story of the #BeAnOrganDonor campaign. The girls were also excited to hear about her encounters with Justin Bieber and Ellen Degeneres. Hélène is such a remarkable woman and such a fantastic role model. We were so proud and honoured that she decided to share her story with us. To learn more about Hélène you can visit her website alungstory.ca.
