Diverse Peptide-Catalysts for Diverse Organic Reactions

Modern organic synthesis depends heavily on the use of catalysts for selective transformations. We have discovered a class of "biomimetic" synthetic peptides that catalyze a number of enantioselective and regioselective reactions. The connections between the amino acid sequence and stereoselectivity will be explored in a range of mechanistically distinct reactions. The application of the catalysts to selective modification of complex molecules, including biologically active natural products, will be described. The implications for the development of "Green," sustainable processes will also be discussed.
