Grant, Jeffrey, and I performed this at Access, which is the young adults ministry of Grace Community Church. It was originally performed at World Mandate '09, which is a mission conference put on my Antioch Community Church.
In case you can't hear it all.
Spiritual warriors have always been the one’s writing history, their hands may have never held a pen, but their lives fill the pages of our minds. Their legacy, ordinary men and women who traveled inside the great heart of God and have found his presence to be their courage. Their legacy is easily seen in their worship and could be described in one word……audacity.
Homes and possessions have been forsaken to live in the impossible. Those who have seen the goodness of God aren’t typical, they stick out, they make you nervous, because they have a different spirit… like Caleb, seeing giants occupy the land, but he knew that they paled in comparison to the size of his God.
History demonstrates spiritual warriors don’t take no for an answer, and you can’t get rid of them.
By faith, Abel offered the best of what he had, because God was his treasure, the runner up… Cain, picked from the scraps hoping to safeguard the best for something yet to come. His offering paled in comparison.
By the same faith, Enoch treasured his friendship with God more that anything else, and was found no more because God called him to his side.
These men pleased God, because they believed
HE WAS WHO HE SAYS HE WAS, THE REWARDER OF THOSE WHO DILLIGENTLY SEEK HIM
By faith, Abraham left his homeland, his fathers house, and followed God to a place yet known to him. He understood the plan before, becoming the father of every nation.
His wife…Sarah, believed that in her old age, she could conceive a child. She held to a promise that was too tender to share with other people, but she found God to be faithful to his promise.
The list of spiritual warriors goes on, because they multiply themselves. God’s love has changed their approach to people, his justice their approach to life.
By faith, Joseph saved the nation of Egypt, and on his deathbed prophesied the exodus of the Israelites.
By faith, the parents of Moses refused to comply to the evil decrees of a king that aborted life and led to the genocide of Israelite babies.
By faith, Moses when grown gave up his royalty and fame to live a hard life with God’s people. He chose the way of suffering like the Messiah over the soft life of sin chosen by the oppressors.
By faith, Israel walked through the Red Sea on dry ground, their enemies sought them and were drown. Why?
THIS ISN’T A FAIR FIGHT, THOSE WITH GOD ARE ALWAYS IN THE ADVANTAGE
By faith, the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho for seven days and surveyed the site of their next supernatural victory as the walls of Jericho fell flat before a band of worshiping warriors.
FOR WHO CAN STAND UP TO OUR GOD?
The legacy goes on for ages. Gideon!
The prophets, through their acts of faith they overturned kingdoms!
Fought and overcame injustice!
Obtained promises and shut the mouths of lions!
Took disadvantages, and made them advantages!
Became valiant in battle.
THAT’S AUDACITY, THAT’S A LEGACY!!!!
Others were tortured, braved abuses and whippings, and yes even chains and dungeons. Our fathers were stoned, sawed in two, murdered in cold blood. Some were forced to become wanderers, friendless, homeless….. I tell you.
These men and women are those
OF WHOM THE WORLD IS NOT WORTHY!!
Can you hear the sound of the cloud of witnesses, can you hear their call. All of heaven believes in you, in us! Our fathers pass their stories on to us and by the same spirit of God, their song can become our song!
The great ones from our own recent past, our own backyard….Todd Beamer, Billy Grahm, Jim Elliot, all had their turn.
They all took their turn walking through the valley of the shadow of death
It was for Him, and for them, they left a legacy
But what legacy will you leave?
A harvest is waiting.
The king is deserving, every knee will bow, every tongue will shout.
But we will not wait just for that day
Today is that day, today is our turn
