:: Replaced with H.264/AAC vers ::

This was my first real foray into video! Leicester based band 'The Screening' needed a music video and fast, 3 weeks till deadline, and no budget! The result was this - filmed in one weekend with a borrowed FX1e and an HV20, with a total cost of about £50. Sometimes i find it hard to watch because it looks so amateurish but other times I'm quite proud of what i did in a weekend with no crew or experience!

very nicely done! do you know what file format you uploaded as? if you want, can you allow downloads so i can check the original footage to see why the audio might be out of sync?
    awesome video...
    thanks,

I always upload as WMV - my net connection sucks the huge one on uploads; so its the only really effective way to keep the file size in check, and i've had good results in terms of final quality :D

    Settings: Video: WMV 9, 2 pass, 25fps, Peak bitrate 5Mbps (average 3Mbps)
    Audio: WMA10-Pro, 2-pass, 440kbps, 44kHz

Works for the majority of the time, but the two or three times its been important that the sound match exactly, it doesnt :( All the threads about this are months old so i think not many people are still experiencing the issue?

    - also thanks for being nice!

i'm a WMV'er as well, but have recently moved to H.264/MP4 and actually like it better than WMV by far. Same bitrate/size, but better quality when comparing the two in my opinion. and you might have better luck with audio sync if you use H.264 which is what vimeo recommends when they re-encode to flash... you can try it :)
for 1280x720, my settings in premiere is:
    H.264/MP4 Average 5Mbps Peak 7Mbps
    and comes out great.

rendering out to H.264/AAC now, using exact same bitrate as the WMV tho as opposed to your setting, so that it can be a fair fight between the formats! so still average of 3, peak of 5, audio 44khz.

it says its going to take a while, and then i have the crawl of uploading! but then, THEN we'll see!

it'll be worth it... takes a little longer to encode in H.264 opposed to WMV.

The problem is your WMV10-Pro. Vimeo uses open source technologies to decode uploaded videos and this is a new codec, not well supported yet. If you prefer WMV, go for WMV9 or 8. However, h.264/AAC is better, as it will give you better compatibility with other devices too, e.g. the PS3.

    vimeo.com/607541 = the H.264/AAC version :(

i posted a reply.... you should test your mp4 before uploading :) and make sure field order is progressive. i get the same garbage if i don't set to progressive in premiere. ping me....
  • wob ler 2 years ago
the mp4 plays 100% a-ok for me, i even re-downloaded it from vimeo and again its fine- feel free to D/L and try it?
  • Mark Jensen 2 years ago
yeah you're right. it plays fine using nero showtime but not windows media player... we'll figure it out :) let me import into premiere and see what's going on.
  • Mark Jensen 2 years ago
your new test file uploaded fine to vimeo using the new export settings in premiere! yeah!!!!!!!!!!
  • wob ler 2 years ago
still doing the 1st pass of the full length one lol
  • Mark Jensen 2 years ago
yeah mp4 takes a while longer... but worth it :)

    moment of truth....!

    looks good! in sync! congrats...

thanks for your help troubleshooting! not sure why they allow formats that don't work, but i'll stick to the settings we're discovered from now on!

well i think WMV 10 is pretty new... and vimeo recommends H.264 in the tutorials... i think this has to do with adobe flash accepting WMV 10 as well.
    you'll be happier with H.264/mp4 anyway, i promise :)

Looks great - you should be proud.

Encoding the audio at 44.1kbps should keep better time after Vimeo re-encodes. I don't see the original file here, but I bet you used 48kbps.

Its bizarre how its only the videos that are intrinsically linked to the audio that mess up! Audio is set to WMA10-Pro, 2-pass, 440kbps, 44kHz :/

(also thanks for the encouraging words!)

2 days and 50 quid? Bravo!

if i didnt have to buy snacks for the 'cast' all the time it would have been less! our lighting kit never arrived so it was quick but horrible looking - one day for the narrative and one day for the performance :/

    thx!

I'd have gone to see them, but I've reached the age when mug of cocoa and an early night is a more enticing prospect for a Tuesday night.
