  • I first heard the term "soldiers" from my friend's mom who is British and I thought it was so cute....I still don't know how I feel about this....especially since I'm really skeptical about soft-boiled eggs in general..but we'll see...

Has your Marmite turned up yet?
  • not yet..i bet scruff-E ate all of it....hahaha.

I've never heard of the 1 minute boil, 6 minute stand method. I'll definitely be giving it a go as the old 3/4 minute boil tends to yield unpredictable yolk consistencies. I make my soldiers from cheese-on-toast, and with tea. Always tea with eggs! It's the white wine of hot beverages.

If Delia says it works, it will work:

As you saw in the video, I also accompany boiled eggs with a cup of tea. However, I think there is a case for having coffee when the eggs are scrambled.

I learned this from my uncle, sans the Marmite.
  • SteveR 7 months ago
Have you tried it avec the Marmite yet?
  • ed 7 months ago
No. I'll have to do that tomorrow morning.

I hope you're less squeamish than that when you're sawing people's legs off.

    Ha ha ha

haha yeah i thought i was gonna puke it when we did the BKA (below knee amputation) but somehow i was tough as nails.

yeah ok i think id rather cut off a leg than have to eat marmite smothered in yolk. my hat to you sir, you have outdone me in grossness.

nice vid tho. heheh. are you going to really make a whole marmite cooking series? part of me expects waves of nausea and the other part of me cheers you on.

Me too...give me raw human legs any day.

Pirata, I had planned a whole series on Marmite cooking, but the fact that this first episode has gained only 4 "Likes" at the time of writing may mean that I abandon the idea.
  • Pirata718 7 months ago
well make it 5! ill heart you. :)
  • SteveR 7 months ago
It now has 6 "Likes". If it reaches 10, I'll continue the series. If not, the series is cancelled.

I'll definitely be giving that a go. So far, I have been a purist when it comes to marmite - having it only with butter on either toast or bread - but I think it's time to be a little more adventurous and try it with other things. Apparently it's good with cheese (I imagine it's best to stick to mild cheeses, like cheddar, edam, or of course good old red leicester).
  • SteveR 7 months ago
Go for it, you're only young once.
  • Buck Flashroy 7 months ago
    Haha.

I tried it today (including your/Delia's method for soft boiling eggs). It's great! I'll be doing that again :)
  • SteveR 7 months ago
It is the finest way of boiling eggs. I have forsaken all other methods.

Very educational, the 1/6 minute thing will be tested on next sunday. That sounds fanastic.

I gave marmite another chance on Sunday ( I cannot throw the glass away ) but there's no progress so far.
  • SteveR 7 months ago
Let me know how you get on with the egg boiling.

    Marmite? That's soooo 2007!
  • ojo 7 months ago
    No, Marmite is timeless.
  • Bill 7 months ago
    If only it were tasteless

Horrifying! I will give this tutorial a "like" simply because I would like to see the series continue, not because I actually "like" Marmite.
  • SteveR 7 months ago
    That's very public-spirited, Tallulah.
  • SteveR 7 months ago
It has 9 "Likes" now, Tallulah. Just one more and the series is saved!

  • SteveR 5 months ago

Oh GOD I MISS this Sunday breakfast special.
With Sunday papers. (Read not eaten)
I could do it... got the eggs... got the marmite
    Got the cholesterol AAAAARGH

Have you noticed that Marmite has been weakened in recent years? I think they made it more like Vegemite so as to make people put more on the toast that way it gets eaten up quicker. Also it has a plastic top now... sigh.... Not the Grandpa Juice it once was...

Have you tried toast with butter, Marmite and honey?
    Recommended.
  • SteveR 5 months ago
I've not tried Marmite with honey yet. I'm not sure I ever will. The newsreader Jon Snow recommends Marmite with marmalade on a croissant, which sounds truly disgusting.

I have to respectfully disagree with your view that Marmite has been weakened in recent years, I think it's more likely that our taste buds decline over the years.

I agree with you about the plastic top, though. The metal lid was much classier.
