Tomorrow the first day of the Iowa State Fair begins on the south side of Des Moines but tonight the Iowa State Fair parade took place a few miles away in downtown Des Moines. Around 9,000 people lined up Grand Avenue in the 90 degree heat with sticky 63% humidity including retired Iowan Jim Kern. He’s gone to the fair every summer since the ‘80s and while he wishes there were more things at the fair like there were years ago he is still enthusiastic about going every year.
