In 2003 there was a big outdoor theatre spectacle on an old shipyard in Amsterdam Holland. Two years later in 2005 the play was performed in Vlissingen, a city from which in the 16th and 17th century the Dutch slaveships sailed to get their human cargo. Berith Danse (artistic director Theatre Embassy) directed the play and I produced it. In 2007 I made this documentary about the background of the play. What motivated the theatremakers to work with this theme? What effect did it have on the audience? What did it take to produce it? The film is in Dutch but we are working on English subs.
