Movica is a video utility that can do a few things, including the joining of WMV story files without re-rendering. This larger test file starts with a new ''standard opening' clip made using 300 pictures in PS3, followed by the main feature, my previously uploaded Winslow Homer story.

Movica is a GUI and the combining of wmv files is done by a command line app that's included with it... Asfbin.

Thanks to John Lauwers for the continued nudging to get this to fruition.

I made it in XP, and just checked Movica in Windows 7, doing the same project combo... worked fine.
  • When you say command app? what is it? one has to learn programming? code?

A GUI is software running in a Graphical User Interface, like PS3 in Windows. You work with Movica but it passes commands to Asfbin.exe so you don't need to get into that stuff...

When the GUI isn't working, then it's rolling up the shirt sleeves and getting into the underlying command-line app. Here's the command I had to give it at that level.... working in a plain black window.

    asfbin -i 1.wmv -i 2.wmv -o 3.wmv

that command tells asfbin to take 1.wmv first, add 2.wmv to it and output 3.wmv.... even you could do that... if you knew how to get to the blackboard.... here's how - go to your Windows Start button > Run > type in the word command and you'll be in the blackboard.

I did this project at the command line level with asfbin, and the GUI level with Movica. Both worked to get a playable file but the asfbin output wasn't properly indexed.... I uploaded the one from Movica which was better.
  • Thanks for the explanation.
So if I got it right, the real reason why to use Movica resides on the fact that no re-rendering is needed to edit, join or clip segments of .WMV files. Is this an accurate statement?
Whereas, MovieMaker can do the same and more, but one has to re-render, losing quality in the process.

Thanks for all your efforts PapaJohn. You're the greatest !!!
This is removing the mayor disadvantage of PS3 and in my opinion puts it back on top of the list of slideshow creating software packages

Yup, it provides new reasons to explore PS3 some more... and it runs the same on XP, Vista and Windows 7 so projects can be moved around as needed to different computers. It offers stability as the seas around Movie Make churn toward Windows 7.

The direct link to my new website page about Movica is

It has a long way to go but it's growing daily.
