After making video art for many years, in the fall of 1999 Jim Sperber began to paint in earnest. What started as an exploration in line, color, balance and good old-fashioned work, Sperber’s paintings have continued to evolve over the last 13 years. Where Sperber once spent his time using brushes of increasingly smaller size on larger and larger canvases, he now drips paint onto plywood panels, which makes for more difficult but rewarding work. Sperber’s innate sense of color, balance and rhythm help to create paintings that both stimulate the senses and speak to a physical process that requires significant time and patience.
