A project in Cabell County, West Virginia to use a study of forest and rail industries in the state was used to launch the development of interdisciplinary lessons for use by students.
Participating teachers attended a semester-long course on the forest products and rail transportation then visited locations across to the state to see how they impacted the history, culture and environment of the state. While on the summer 2012 trip, the teachers kept a blog of their experiences for their students (wvforestryandrail.blogspot.com/). They then developed interdisciplinary lesson plans to teach their students the mathematics, science, music, literature and history of the two interconnected industries in our state.
