Phil and I rented bicycles for two days in Kyoto. This was a great way to explore the city, because we covered a lot of ground but also found lots of site streets and local's areas that most visitors probably never go to.
Petty crime like theft is so low in Japan that we used a token bike lock, which you use more so someone doesn't accidentally take your bike instead of their own.
