This is a project I just completed. It's for an application for grad school. They wanted a video self-portrait, no longer than 3 minutes.
What do you think? Please give me your comments or suggestions if you have any.

I'm feeling similar to how I felt after watching Jakob's vidblog. like I took a peek at a small part of your life condensed into three minutes. Well done.

I don't really know what to say other than the fact that this was one of the coolest, sweetest videos I've ever seen. I just think that you are absolutely awesome.

This is lovely! I really love the shot of the doll chairs being placed on your arm. Sprechen sie fliessendes Deutsch? Was it german? I wasn't quite sure.

Very cool. This clip provides a nice glimpse into who you are. I think the combination of verbal and visual elements is also pretty groovy.

sis, i finally signed onto vimeo; i absolutely LOVE this video; here are my highlights: 1.) at the start, showing a doll wearing a pink sweater, even though green is your favorite color; 2.) the humor in your pointing to the exact locations of where piercings "make you gag" and how you cleverly NEVER indicated which type does NOT make you gag (this may only be funny to our generation) 3.) using subtitles to translate mom's comments about your (hair) do: 4.) anna's questioning if you're process oriented and the detailed conclusion you come to, to confirm that; 5.) the sweet ending, with you singing "it's a beautiful world" (although you seemed a little sad - maybe just mellow)...

i believe you've got real talent in the story-telling aspect of the video; it looks like you didn't need much editing and it was effortless...good use of music - who sings "it's a beautiful world?"

    This was really lovely.

Oh I used to collect dolls house furniture as well. It was an obsession of mine. It came in handy at uni, doing stop frame animation.

I really hope you get in!

for people who haven't tried this, it's the hardest thing in the world. you did a great job. i'm not sure if i would have liked the ending better if it ended aftyer "french toast" or if i like the music and the everyday dishes scene.

    nice job.

Oh I love love love this clip. It's so sweet and really makes me feel like I know you, which of course I really do not.

I love dollhouses too. Tiny things have always really appealled to me.

And I love that shot of your daughter (?) in the unfinished house.
  • andrea 2 years ago
Thank you, duplo! The shot of my daughter, Anna, was taken from a music video that Jakob made for the group Aloha. It's on blumpy.org

All you vimeo folks: Thank you so much for your kind comments and insights. Honestly I feel like I have this little support system (actually not so little!) here on vimeo and it's a great feeling. I hope to put up something I've been working on in school soon.

This video was beautiful and unpretentious -- like its subject.

This was wonderful! I loved the look on your face when asked about 2 positive things Bush had done, I loved the doll chairs on your arm, I loved your daughter dancing in the house under construction, and I loved the ending, with you singing. Just beautiful.

And I know what you mean about wanting something, but not necessarily getting it. The wanting can be just as great as the getting. Even more so. :)
