This month is about rapid changes in auto repair and our first innoventures investment in a US Digital start up called Repairpal.
I have talked to consumers around the world about their experiences with car workshops and found that they all worry about the same things; finding a trustworthy workshop, knowing the expected cost of a repair and getting car advice.
In response to this consumer need we are running the Total Care programme, of which, Carama is our first business, a trusted auto repair digital portal in Malaysia. More about Carama next month.
We have also made a significant minority investment in a US startup called RepairPal .
Repairpal is helping to transform the US auto repair industry by providing repair and maintenance information to consumers via a mobile App.
Their offer provides consumers with repair information, price estimates and expert advice from certified mechanics.
Repairpal’s comprehensive workshop directory, recommends “Top Shops” based on equipment, mechanic training, guarantees and customer satisfaction.
Telematics is an exciting new area. For example
Hyundai US are using their “Blueline” telematics to detect car problems as they occur. They contact drivers to explain the problem and offer appointments at their dealership. This is an illustration of the opportunities in the fast-growing "connected car” market. So watch this space. We’ll be back next month!
