In 1982 California voters soundly rejected the attempt to build a peripheral canal around the Delta. It was viewed as a potential environmental disaster to the Delta, Delta farmers, the San Francisco Bay and all the wildlife that depend on the delicate ecosystem of The Delta. But sometimes bad ideas are reborn.
This video looks at the newest version of the canal being pushed hard by The Governor, western and southern Central Valley agriculture interests, and water managers in Southern California. All of whom are lusting over the idea of building a giant ditch which would deprive The Delta of badly needed fresh water.
Included in the video is a look at the history of Central Valley agriculture and it's troubled soil.
There is a growing chorus of voices against this not-so-veiled move to grab more Northern California water. Learn more about it and add your voice by shouting NO to the peripheral canal!
