Singapore Movies: Why they hit?
Singapore-made movies are being screened regularly together with the biggies from Hollywood. Many of these Singapore made movies fair poorly at box office, but there are a few that hit the target.
Army Daze, and Ah Boys To Men franchise are some good examples. Army Daze, grossed 1.6 million. Ah Boys To Men with two parts so far has crossed the 10.87 million mark.
In both movies, great care has been taken to ensure that the characters are more Singaporean. Dialogues are laced with Singapore accent. Both the movies mocked at Singaporean attitudes and behaviors.
Why Singaporeans like them?
Great care taken to ensure that the characters are more heartland-type, many of the scenes and dialogues are laced with comedy and mixed with Singapore.
The audience can relate easily to their daily life and mock themselves. Maybe Singaporeans like mocking themselves and that has worked out in the movies. Catch Digitized ARMY DAZE during the limited screening from 16 - 25 March 2013!
