immersive multy-media installation, 2009
An outdoor public swimming pool crowded with people is video recorded with a submerged camera. The video is presented on a 32” lcd screen placed under the bootom of a fish tank filled with water. The tank contains a submergible speaker, which makes the surface of the water whisper. The words become intelligible only by placing one’s head in the tank.
Breathless is a work that plays with perceptive habits, searching for physical contact with the viewer and fragmenting the time of reception into intervals equivalent to the length of a single breath. By reminding how specific environments impose their limits on individuals, the work reflects on shared spaces and on the dialectic between natural and artificial and between steril and contaminated which takes place amongst members of a community and the environment they inhabit.
