Christine Olejniczak with Electric Dirt
Musical rendering by Christine Olejniczak
Olejniczak has been performing the sound of drawing on instruments of her own making since 1994. Forming her band, Electric Dirt, with her musician husband Ray Freese and Alex Garza, heavy-mellow singer-songwriter of Houston band Big Green Machine, they have surprised crowds with their pencil rock at Houston venues such as DiverseWorks, The Station, Project Rowhouse, the Blaffer Gallery and Pete's Dancing Marlin. Described by one fan as "John Cage with a beat," they draw neo-tribal rhythms with graphite, pen and pencil. Watch this video recording of the performance.
This exhibition opened Thursday, July 2, 2009 in the
Southwest School Of Art And Craft's, Russell Hill Rogers Galleries on the art school's Navarro Campus, 300 Augusta at Navarro. Exhibitions at the art school are free and open to the public, Mon-Sat 9A-5P, and on Sun 11A-4P.
