This is the video component of my graduating exhibition from Wits School of Arts. It is
essentially a show reel of the four videos, which comprise of the work as a whole. The videos
were set up at various stations within the installation. The viewer was encouraged to walk
around the whole space, in order to complete the narrative.
The title refers to the folklore of the ‘rat king’, in which any numbers of rats, living in close
proximity, begin to grow into each other, by the merging of their tails through blood,
excrement, dirt and ice.
The concept of the ‘rat king’ enabled experimentation across selected psychoanalytic,
poststructuralist and critical texts, which I was able to combine with anecdotal experiences,
narratives and visual and sound language.
