Very beautiful, but some of the shots would have benefited using a tripod, imo.

I disagree on using tripod here. I liked the movement, it gave a feeling of being there. Nice colorwork, maybe a bit over the top on your granparents.

It its kinda intense, but you break it up in the end with the hug. That melted my heart. Nice one.

Fantastic video ... beautiful colors and the music fits perfect to the the intense mood. Very personal and inspiring work !!

Regarding to the comments of Trond and Ronald ... I would run the whole thing to a stabilizer too ( it's probably too late for suggesting a tripod now ), keeping the natural shaking at some moments. Then, it would fit to the vintage color mood.

Why do you need an adapter when it's already a DSLR?
  • john lewis 3 months ago
    a) old manual lenses are much cheaper for fast apertures
    b) you can force open these wide apertures in sunlight, something video mode doesn't allow you to do otherwise on the 500D/T1i
    c) you need an adapter to use these old lenses on a new dSLR

Tripod. No tripod. Either way, I was crying. Beautiful piece. Grandparents are so wonderful. I loved watching her hands - they've seen and done so much in her lifetime. Beautiful.

really really nice. Which m42 lens did you use? I've been shooting with 500d as well but have got problems getting right exposure in sunlight - did you underexpose or use an ND filter? Are you using custom Picture Styles? Especially the blue sky is something I never can get!Thank you!

Really moving portrait. I loved your visual compositions, and I think the color correction was very interesting and eye-pleasing. As a video shooter, I am partial to camera stabilization for static shots, since they tend to reveal subtle movements and are easier on the eye, but I also understand using hand-held for such an intimate work that is so personal. Stabilization also sort of helps reduce awareness of horizontal line jaggies (anti-aliasing), and also if you turn the sharpness and contrast all the way down in the camera settings since you're using Magic Bullet in post, it might help cut down on that. I don't really notice jaggies unless they are moving due to camera movement. Great shallow depth-of-field using the fast primes. People are raving about the Canon 5DmII and the 7D, but films like this really show the quality of the EOS Rebel!
