PING: The Smart Trash Bin -- My MFA Thesis
5 months ago
A video overview of my thesis project from concept and research to full implementation and testing.
Yes, it's true. I spent a year building trash bins for my thesis project. But PING is a special trash bin. He's smart. He's ubiquitous. Divided into 3 compartments (1 for waste, 2 for recycling), PING tracks what is being thrown into it and shows this data to its users in several different ways. This project is an experiment in Ubiquitous Computing, leveraging the big issue of consumption/sustainability as a way to see how smart objects can help people learn new things about themselves and generate positive change in the world.
