This is a first render from a new Twitter visualization project. This movie shows about 11,000 tweets collected over a 24 hour period between August 20th and 21st. The tweets were harvested to find people saying 'good morning' in English as well as several other languages.

Built in Processing (processing.org) using Twitter4J, and a home-brewed client for MetaCarta's geo-parsing APIs.

Is the animation time based? Seems like a lot of people are saying "good morning" all day long.

obviously with there being a timestamp it must be. so I guess I answered my own question :) Very cool visualization!

It is time-based. The globe rotates so that you see the 'edge' when people are starting to tweet.

But people do say 'good morning' at strange times. I suspect this is a mix of people who are either not at their stated location or are travelling, people who are saying good morning to other people (I specifically removed @ replies but I'm sure it didn't get all of these).

I'll render out a static version with a transparent globe - you can see the wave fairly clearly.

Nice Jer. it would be cool to add the day and night shading as a layer to the animation
