In a London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) blog post, Martin Weller states that the idea of Open Access has conquered in academics and that a more nuanced view on the issue is needed. However, while this may be true for LSE, which has indeed taken a clear stand in favor of Open Access and acts accordingly, Ilse Mariën's personal experience shows that Flanders is nowhere near the idea of Open Access. Instead, Flemish academics show fear and dare not to openly question the system of academic publishing. And yet, many aspects of the current publishing system are wrong. Take this chance to reflect about the many reasons why.
