GoodMorning! is a Twitter visualization tool which shows about 11,000 tweets collected over a 24 hour period between August 20th and 21st. The tweets were harvested to find people saying 'good morning' in English as well as several other languages.

The tweets appear as blocks and are colour-coded. Green tweets are early in the morning, orange tweets are at about 9am, and red tweets are later in the morning. Black tweets are 'out-of-time' messages (sent at times that aren't in the morning at that location).

Built in Processing (processing.org) using Twitter4J, and a home-brewed client for MetaCarta's geo-parsing APIs.

How do you know the location? From the user's twitter profile? Also, what is the continental texture? Is that the weather patterns?

Nerdy or geeky? Damnit, Vimeo commenters, make up your mind.

The location comes from the Twitter profile (I realize this can be easily spoofed but with 11,000 tweets it's probably a decent representation).

The continental texture is from here - a shaded specular map plus the night lights image to indicate population centres: planetpixelemporium.com/earth.html

On top of that is a cloud layer, also from that site.

I think the API missed my tweets in Cologne/Germany... Haven't seen it ;)

Very Cool! I love visualized Data. The clouds stuff inside the continents is a little distracting.

Geeky & nerdy... and excellent. I agree with previous comment about adding music. That would be the finishing touch.
