Sheryl Lindsay, Executive Director, Sistering
Sheryl recognizes the strides women have made but said more needs to be done. She reflected upon Drina Joubert’s death in 1985 that put a face to homelessness. Drina was a former model who tried to get shelter while she was drinking alcohol. She was denied shelter and froze to death sleeping in the back of a pick up truck that same night. The inquest into her death was the catalyst for a proliferation of services to address homeless women. She believes that systemic advocacy and building genuine relationships with women will help eliminate violence and barriers to women’s health.
