Stew Jordan is a former senior staffer at the Parks Board and incidentally was hired by Commissioner Barnes’ father, over 40 years ago. He has come out of retirement to help the community centre associations with some information, for instance around the Joint Operating Agreement (JOA).
Did you know the JOA gives all the power to the Parks Board when it comes to the Arbitration Clause? Yes, they are the judge, jury and executioner and they have the right to evict the community centre associations.
He said today’s PB organisation have become staff dominated, staff driven and the politicians basically are taking directions from the staff - “the tail is wagging the dog”. He also went on to say that communities run “better in a partnership” because that partnership brings progress.
In closing, he asks the audience to “please stand tall and keep the community in the community”!
