MOBIUS – A FILM BY IAN SPRIGGS
Mobius the premiere film by Ian Spriggs issues us with a cycle of endless violence caught in an endless loop of repetition. In this street fight, viewers will soon realize that much more to this film. The animated film is a feedback loop hypnotising us in its dizzying intensity. The clockwise circling of the action scene also takes us visually around the scene. The characters become symbolic of the mechanics of time, becoming like the cogs of a clock – which cycle their movements in seamless repetitive animation loops. Within this paradox of time, the fighters also alternate their motions. One fighter finds himself running through the exact sequence of motions the other fighter just went through. Only after playing this film on repetition do we start to see the subtleties and play of time.
