Pondlife II - ICMC 2009
An installation by Osamah Salem and Patrick Sanan, as presented at ICMC 2009 in Montreal.
The installation uses a projector to draw small, simulated microbes on the surface of a the water in a large plexiglass tank. A camera underneath the tank and submerged hydrophones allow the user to interact with a simulated fluid which is projected on top of the real one. The sounds are triggered by the simulated creatures and change as the creatures are disturbed, grow, die, breed, and mutate. The most simple creatures can feed off the 'light' represented by 6 colored squares for which the viewer can adjust hue and intensity. Creatures thrive in their own color of light.
