Created for the "Make it Interesting" Channel.

I saw the dusty camera bag in the corner and decided to finally pack it away in the closet until the next time I decide to use film. This is my goodbye - for now...

Featured: My tattered-old-well-used Pentax MV1.

Aahh :) makes me want to take the old Praktika from my better half and take some good old analog pictures ... :D
    Nice!
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks, it was fun. Just shooting this camera brought back so many memories.
  •
  • OH man i have that exact same camera!!! It's so beautiful! Oh no don't say bye to film! That makes this video so sad.
    Film is forever
    Film is love!

    Film is also expensive.

    haha

Next semester I'm only shooting 16mm and 35mm for Film classes..its somewhat of a relief.

But back to your video...The lens looks so gorgeous. Thank you for making this..it made me so happy.

    Also...
I think we should send our videos of "products" to these companies..maybe one of us can land a job shooting inanimate objects for them. haha.

    ASAHI FTW!

Thanks Karen - you're right about film. It can be wonderful - it can also be trying and frustrating. I still have about 50 rolls that need developing - I have lost track how long they have been exposed. Digital is just so fast and easy.
  • hahaha i have a TON of rolls of film in my closet that need to be developed..how bout we all put all our film in a large bucket and play mix and match and whoever gets what film can go get it developed and see what's on there.

hahaha my friend matt has a ton of 16mm and 8mm thats not processed either.

one day we'll see whats on theset hings and it will be a surprise!!!

After making and watching this video... I don't think I can bring myself to pack this beauty away. As a matter of fact, I may just go buy some film!
  • YEAY YEAY YEAY!!! Go mister ANDERSON!!! for some reason reading that made me so happy.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Somehow, I new it would. Glad I could put a smile on your face - you seem to spread smiles around here often.

eric, this is amazing!!!!! added to channel. awesome quality/clarity. beautiful camera. loved the closeup of the lens...
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks Mark. I think it was the day after you created the project, I saw the camera in the corner of my office... ha! That's my first "thing" to make interesting!

That was great. That 50mm 1.2 lens would be sweet if you ever got a 35mm adapter.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks man - yeah, an adapter would be real nice. I did find some made for the HDC-SD1 I use - we will see.

.very nice.i used to have a camera just like that..traded it to someone for a canon ae1 that we still have.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks! Ooohh - the AE1 is a classic! One of the best ever.

this is sad and lovely at the same time. a lament for your camera. so great...music went beautifully with the images.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks Adam - yeah, after I found the music and put this together, it is kinda sad. That camera holds lot's of fond memories for me - except the dealing with film part! I still love that camera - digital is just so darn easy.

good job, you definetly made it interesting. i thought the song went well, though a bit sad :( nice camera though, i have a canon ae-1 myself. hooray for black and whites!
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks, Raina - I was a little sad when I made this - the song fit perfectly. Glad you liked it!

    film forever.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks Matthew - I Googled "creative commons music goodbye" (I felt as if I was saying goodbye to my film camera - even though I am not). I found Josh Woodwards' music - fit perfect.

Great stuff! I think that materialism is when you want more and more and dont value the things you have. This is the opposit. You are thankfull for what this camera has given you. A tribute, and you made it interesting.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
    You. Get. Me.

Thank you very much for your kind words Magnus. You made my day bro.

Nice one. I can't believe the clarity of your video. It's stunning... and the video was sweet too. Well done.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thank you very much nshack. Making the video reminded me how much I loved that camera. Now I have to go buy some stupid film.

    i have the spotmatic
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
What a great camera. My only other camera is a K1000 clone... but the spotmatic has to be one of the coolest cameras ever.

  • Joe Votta 2 years ago
Nice video, Eric! What vid camera are you using? Great images! (I had the Sears, Roebuck version of the Asahi Spotmatic.)
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks Joe! I am using a Panasonic HDC-SD1. I like it a lot [said in the voice of Lloyd Christmas].

Funny - I have the Sears clone of the Pentax K1000. Ya know, they put the Like button on the videos for just this sort of occasion ;)

This was great! I miss my camera too, about to move on to a D80. Not to self advertise, but a few years back I made a video that for me describes the crazy antics and ideas that came from picking up my camera

    vimeo.com/665522

I think it's safe to say that all the artistic work I've done with film is centered around looking at the world through SRT 101 and a 54mm lens.

    Thanks!
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Hey Brian - glad you liked it - it sure was fun to make.

i really really loved this one. I believe it was the first video i saw on Vimeo before is signed up

i have myself an olympus om10, similar to this. well looks like it, they're actually two different cameras

but, as a starter project for myself, i think i will try to recreate something like this.Just to play around with the manual focus a bit and macro modes.

    hmm

of course, not my original idea so credit for you will be there =P
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Hey, cool! Go for it man. Glad you are inspired.

Excellent short and excellent music to go with it. You showed that this object from the past century remarkably understands the same vocabulary: f-stop, shutter speed, depth of field.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
Thanks for your kind words. This one came together for me great. It almost made itself.

Really nice Movie you have done there :) I have the exact same Camera Model except that mine is silver instead of black. Great work on working out the details, light and focus shift is really nice. Keep up the great work :) And thnx for sharing
