50. Spheres
Finally up is my own little space opera : a mesmerizing choregraphy evoking atoms, DNA, seeds, spirals, fractals, etc... inspired by Anaxagoras of Clazomenae. philosophy.gr/presocratics/anaxagoras.htm

The first draft screened in 2008 as a backdrop for the robotic and live music performance by URBAN ORCHESTRA at the city council new year celebration meeting critical acclaim.

This is the final director's cut with updated soundtrack and tighter edits to my original vision : 42000 HD frames at 50p running for 14 minutes.

thx! looking for ways to deal with that.
at the moment it's hijacking a 40gb harddrive in glorious 50p (PAL doublerate) and not sure how bluray compression will handle that.

This is truly spectacular, it takes me to a calm place, a place where I seldom go, and I love it. The music is perfect, its really moving to me, Is there any way I can get a copy of this track?

The whole feel reminds me of the movie Sunshine...brilliant work! I don't see any download link anywhere btw.

Works great with the soundtrack. The music reminded me of Us and Them from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
If they were still making albums today you would be just the chap to create their visuals. This work would look great in HD. Have you tried to see if Futurescope in Poiters could use your work in one of their huge cinemas? Look forward to your next one except a shorter version that plays better on my mac.
  • Regis Hervagault 2 years ago
hey thx, yes the floyds would be an amazing inspiration indeed

Stunningly beautiful! I love the structures that form and how you keep them stable for just long enough. Are they designed or evolved? As in, did you make each structure and animate between them, or are they rather from chance and algorithms, and you picked ones that looked good? Some of those transitions are so intricate I just can't imagine a human designing them... Then again, maybe it's "just" the symmetry that makes it look that way?

Would love to see elaborations on some of the structures. I'm a game programmer/designer so can't help but think in such terms, but some of those structures had an amazing alien beauty and purpose to them, really feel there is a potential for... something in there.

Thank you for sharing! Both visuals and music are fantastic; feels like you must've competed to create the most beautiful component ;)
  • Regis Hervagault 2 years ago
Thank you for your interest Joachim.
it's is simply tedious manual work over simple algorithms involved in the many steps of the transformation. i scripted simple fourrier analysis and random calculations over the soundtrack to generate various seeds and drive keyframes for the more advanced moves and altered them until it looked right.

I didn't know anyone else used groboto. Nice work. My only critique is that you used the spheres for the whole video, I feel it limited the morphing capabilities of the program. Still a nice piece, I look forward to seeing you push it even further. Oh duh it's called spheres that's what I get for staying up all night on the internet. um carry on then.
  • Regis Hervagault 2 years ago
lol thx Daniel. it is a marvelous piece of software indeed. i hope the dev bring enhancements in future updates to the animation section because it is quite limited at the moment to say the least so i had to use scripting voodo and dirty tricks to get what i wanted

Hey man, this poem came to me after watching this video, hope you like it! :D

To seek that which cannot be sought,
To see that which is unseen,
To know that which cannot be known.

To look is not to find,
    for what we seek,
    is not to be found
    but known.

    The Awareness but a leaf
    dancing,
    with itself,
    in infinite union.

A dreamer's dream dreamt in the dreams of the Dreamer.
