OYOW PART I: The Last Speakers - RAMA PEOPLE OF NICARAGUA

This is the story of the Rama community, a group of about 2000 people living on a tiny island off the southeastern coast of Nicaragua. After being told for centuries that their traditional language, lifestyle, and culture was "bad", the language is near extinction. In this piece, I speak with Walter Ortiz Ruiz, one of only two speakers of the Rama language on Rama Cay. Here's his story and that of an amazing community trying desperately to save their traditional language and culture....

Thank you to Everyone who through your donations to One Year One World helped make this story possible!!!!
