Right off the bat I have to admit I made a mistake using Fume's Effector. I actually did the inverse - which is to increase turbulence within it; but I actually froze it. You can see the smoke come to a standstill at one point. It's a bit low-res as far as fume goes so you see some balls of smoke, but it's fine. You can also see the cylindrical effector attached to the thruster thingy.

So 100% this is overkill for the few minutes I spent on it. I tried to get it all done in a single day in my spare time. I was on some random site and I saw the Prometheus ship landing. I then watched the trailer because it's a really beautiful film visually, but blah blah, but I noticed just in general how you'll see particle systems that keep the feel constant as it approaches the ground, wall or any other surface, but in reality it would become more chaotic.

So all this is just that, as the thruster comes closer it starts to kick up particles more rapidly. It's hard to tell because of their Life, but that's what happens.
